Before Matt Evans founded Evans Law in 2011, he was already an established lawyer in Anne Arundel County, having practiced for 12 years as a partner with Council, Baradel, Kosmerl & Nolan, P.A. Then he turned his focus to his own practice where, for the past 10 years, he has used his expertise in real estate, construction, and land use to handle a breadth of work involving residential and commercial transactions.
Additionally, the practice has included significant litigation and appellate experience in State and Federal Courts. In recognition of his prioritizing green building, Mr. Evans has been given the distinction of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED-AP) by the United States Green Building Council.
Mr. Evans remains involved in his community by lending his legal expertise to numerous boards and organizations. Since 2005, he has served on the board of trustees for Scholarships for Scholars Inc., an organization that grants scholarships in excess of $100,000 per year to graduating seniors from Anne Arundel County. During his time on the board, he served as its chairman from 2010 to 2011.
He also served on the board of directors of the Marine Trades Association of Maryland from 2002 to 2012, and he has been appointed to volunteer for several prestigious government roles: He was appointed by Mayor Ellen Moyer to serve on the Parking Advisory Commission of the City of Annapolis from 2007 to 2012; in 2012, the City Council of Annapolis appointed him to serve a five-year term on the Annapolis Building Board of Appeals; and in 2015, County Executive Steve Schuh appointed him to serve on the County Planning Advisory Board.
Mr. Evans resides in Annapolis with his four children.
An Annapolis native, Mr. Evans graduated from the Severn School before pursuing his bachelor’s degree at Auburn University and his law degree from Cumberland School of Law of Samford University in 1998. That same year, he was admitted to practice law in the State of Maryland. In the years following, he was admitted to practice law in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland in 1999, the District of Columbia in 2002, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia in 2007, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in 2009. Mr. Evans also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Michael E. Loney, Associate Judge, Fifth Circuit of Maryland.
